building faith . . . sharing hope . . .living love

The mission statement for our congregation is "Grace Lutheran Church. . . . . . building faith . . . sharing hope . . . living love". It is based on what Paul wrote to the Corinthian Christians in 1 Corinthians 13:13 "So now, faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

The scriptures are full of references to the love of God, and to his desire for us to love others. From the beginning, God has loved his creation even though we rebelled against him. His love for his human creation was so great he set in motion His plan to redeem us and restore us to a right relationship with Him. Our love for God is a response to the love he has shown us. We also love our neighbors as Christ taught us as he summarized the will of God, in Matthew 22:37-39 "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself." John the beloved disciple wrote in 1 John 4:7, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. And in 1 John 4:11 concludes, "Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.

We recognize that we are fallen and imperfect. We like everyone on this planet sin and deserve punishment from God. But we hold fast to God's promises contained in his Word, the Bible, including Jesus words recorded in the Gospel of John. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order tha the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned" (John 3:16-18a). Jesus' sacrifice on the cross atoned for the sins of the world. We are no longer outcasts but are forgiven heirs of the kingdom of God.

Putting action to the attributes of building faith, sharing hope and living love, is what the members of Grace Lutheran strives to do every day as we put faith, hope, and love into action. Living out the love of Christ encompasses all we do at Grace. From our worship services to our Bible Studies, from our sharing hope with others at Easter Egg Hunts and community picnics, and our reaching out to people in care facilities, we always try to let the love God showed to us touch all with whom we are in contact.

Join us as we grow together . . .building faith . . . sharing hope . . . and living love.
